To format, or underline text already typed, select the text first, then change the formatting. Otherwise changes will be from your current cursor position onwards.

How do I change the font?

  1. Font drop down menuIn the ‘Home’ ribbon, click the ‘Font’ drop down menu to display the list of installed fonts and a preview of their appearance.
  2. Click the required font to use it.

    As you run your cursor over the font names your selected text changes to give you a preview as to how it will look if that font is chosen.

How do I change the font size?

The size of a font is measured in points where 1 point = 1/72 of an inch. Therefore 36pt = ½ inch tall.

  1. Font size drop down menuIn the ‘Home’ ribbon click the the font size drop down menu.
  2. Choose a value from the list or delete the value and type a new one.

How do I change the font appearance?

You can alter the appearance of your text in various ways, the three most common being bold, italic and underline.

  1. Change font appearance buttonsIn the ‘Home’ ribbon click the chosen formatting button once to activate it.
  2. Click again to remove.

    It is possible to use more than one formatting option at a time.

How do I alter the alignment of my text?

When aligning text horizontally you have four options:

  • Left align,
  • Centre,
  • Right align,
  • Fully justify
  1. Click within the relevant paragraph (to alter one paragraph) or select text for more than one paragraph.

How do I change the font colour?

The line at the bottom of the ‘Font colour’ button indicates the most recently used font colour (default = black).

  2. Click the box containing the colour of your choice.

How do I change the underline style?

  1. Underline styles drop down menuIn the ‘Home’ ribbon click the ‘Underline’ drop down menu.
  2. Choose a style from those listed.

How do I change the underline colour?

  1. In the ‘Home’ ribbon click the ‘Underline’ drop down menu.
  2. Underline colour optionsClick ‘Underline Color’.
  3. Choose a colour from those listed.
  4. Underline your text as normal.

How do I change the case of text?

  1. In the ‘Home’ ribbon click the ‘Change Case’ drop down menu.
  2. Change case of font drop down menuSelect one of the options provided by clicking it.
    1. Sentence case – The first letter of each sentence will be a capital the rest of the text will be lower case.
    2. lower case – all text will be changed to lower case.
    3. UPPER CASE – ALL TEXT WILL CHANGE TO UPPER CASE.
    4. Capitalize Each Word – Every Word Will Begin With A Capital Letter.
    5. tOGGLE cASE - tHE LOWER CASE LETTERS WILL BE CHANGED TO UPPER CASE AND VICE VERSA.

How do I alter the line spacing?

  1. Click within the paragraph or select the paragraphs you wish to amend.
  2. Line spacing drop down menuIn the ‘Home’ ribbon click the ‘Line Spacing’ drop down menu.
  3. Click one of the options displayed to select it.
