Working with Windows

What is a window?

Screenshot showing multiple windows openA window is a viewing area on the screen. It is common to have more than one window or program open at a time.

The illustration opposite shows three open windows. It is usual for one window to maximised (taking up the full screen) and for the other windows to be hidden behind.

How do I move between windows?

Method One: Taskbar

  1. Icons showing Edge on display and InDesign and File Explorer runningIcons for running programs will be displayed on the taskbar with a black line displayed at the bottom.
  2. The program that is currently on display will have a slightly longer line underneath the icon.
  1. Click the relevant icon to bring that window “to the front” ie display it.

Method Two: Keyboard

  1. Left hand side Alt keyPress and hold <ALT>
  2. Tab keyPress <TAB>

  1. Press the <TAB> key until the border is round the program you require.
  2. Release the <TAB> key.
  3. Release <ALT>.
