It is always good practice to restart your phone, at least every couple of days, and to close down Apps when they are no longer required.

How do I force stop an app?

Forcing an app to stop can help fix app problems as it kills the app process and it stop the app accessing files in its cache, allowing it to be cleared (see next section).

  1. Settings App on AndroidOpen the ‘Settings’ app.
  2. Apps and Notifications in Settings appClick ‘Apps and Notifications’.
  3. See list of all apps in apps and notificationsClick the name of the app. You may have to click ‘See all <X> apps’ and scroll through the list to locate it.
  4. Force stop app iconClick ‘Force Stop’.
  5. Force stop app warningClick ‘OK’ to accept the warning.

How do I clear an app’s storage and cache?

  1. Follow the instructions above to stop the app.
  2. Keep the ‘Apps and Notifications’ page open. (Follow steps 1-3 again in the instructions above, if you’ve closed it down).

How do I remove an app update?

  1. Open the ‘Settings’ app.
  2. Click ‘Apps and Notifications’.
  3. Click the name of the app. You may have to click ‘See all <X> apps’ and scroll through the list to locate it.
