How do I restore a deleted file or folder?

Restore from Recycle Bin:

If you delete a file on your desktop or documents folder it will be sent to the ‘Recycle Bin’. If the bin has not been ‘emptied’ restore the file from here.

  1. Double click on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop.
  2. Locate and right click on the file/folder you need restore.
  3. Click Restore.

Restore from One Drive:

If the recycle bin has been emptied, a copy may still exist in your One Drive Recycle Bin.

  1. One Drive recycle binClick the One Drive icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
  2. Click ‘Recycle Bin’.
  3. Restore from One Drive recycle binLocate and click on the file/folder in the list.
  4. Click ‘Restore’.

Restore from Backup:

Files deleted from a network share need to be restored from a backup by ICT staff.

Please provide us with the following information:

  1. The folder, path and filename - The location of where the file/folder would have been stored.

For example: Dundee\Service User\Joe Bloggs\Support Plan.doc

  1. The date of deletion.

We need to know when the file was deleted so we know which backup file to use.
